The possibility of being involved in a road traffic accident will always be an occupational hazard when working as a taxi driver. Bartletts recently secured compensation for Mr Hensby, a local client who has been unfortunate enough to have been involved in four road traffic accidents in as many years, all dealt with by Bartletts!
Mr Hensby was more concerned on this occasion however as the person who caused the accident absconded from the scene of the accident without stopping. Fortunately, the accident occurred near the taxi rank that Mr Hensby was heading towards and a couple of other cab drivers gave chase. It transpired that the other motor vehicle was stolen and was being driven by a young male without the benefit of a driving licence or insurance. After losing control of the car and crashing it into a lamppost the other cab drivers prevented him from leaving the car until the Police arrived.
Mr Hensby was surprised but relieved to discover that he was still able to recover his loss of earnings and receive compensation for his injuries from the company who insured the car despite the fact that the owner of the car was not driving at the time and that his car was being driven by an unauthorised driver. Mr Henby’s no-claims bonus remained intact and he also received £3,500.00 for the personal injuries sustained in addition to the £2,000 net earnings that he lost as a result of five week’s absence from work.
